According to North Korea‘s state media, the country, led by Kim Jong-un, has claimed to have developed the most powerful nuclear force in the world. This announcement comes in the midst of speculation that North Korea is preparing for a third attempt to launch a military spy satellite, following failed attempts in May and August.
Tong Thae-gwan, an editorial writer for the North’s main newspaper, the Rodong Sinmun, stated that the country’s nuclear capabilities have significantly increased and now stand at the highest level globally, thanks to the revolutionary industry of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea.
In order to highlight Kim’s accomplishments for the year, Tong Thae-gwan pointed to major events like the test-firing of Hwasong-type intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and the summit between Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin in September in Russia’s Far East.
Additionally, North Korea recently declared November 18 as “missile industry day” to commemorate the successful launch of the Hwasong-17 ICBM last year.
