Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has praised the performances of Medeama Sporting Club players Jonathan Sowah and Hamidu Fatawu in Ghana’s 3-1 win over Liberia in an international friendly game.
Fatawu and Sowah made their Black Stars debuts in the game played out at the Accra Sports Stadium in the wake of Ghana’s qualification to a 10th consecutive AFCON tournament.
Sowah came off the bench in the 80th minute and laid on a cross for Jordan Ayew to sweep home on a second attempt in the 82nd minute for Ghana’s third.
Fatawu on the other hand, slotted in at left wing back with regulars Gideon Mensah and Baba Rahman not named in the match day squad due to injury.
Speaking in the post game presser, Hughton was impressed with the 2022-2023 BetPawa Ghana Premier League title winners’ efforts in the win.
“I am very conscious of what any introduction into the camp from local players and that’s why I stay here for periods to watch as many games as I can here. I think both have done well particularly Jonathan (Sowah) coming on in the last minutes and giving the team a real lift in that period particularly when the game opens up.
Really pleased for Hamidu as well to make his debut so I think probably, for them two, I think that’s great encouragement it’s a great encouragement for more of our local players want to aspire to.”
Sowah scored 12 goals and had an assist in 20 BetPawa League last season.
