Ghanaian Lightweight boxer, Abdul Omar Wahid has defeated Tadej Cernoga from Slovenia to progress to the Round of 32 of the 2023 IBA Men’s Boxing Championship.
The Bronze winner at the 2014 and 2022 Commonwealth Games, won 5-0 against the Slovene in the 54-57kg contest at Tashkent in Uzbekistan.
The 29-year-old will next face French opponent, Sofiane Oumiha for a place in the Last 16, where he will take on either Victor Vacula from Moldova or Jose Carfunjol from Venezuela.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Abraham Mensah lost to Thailand’s Surawut Sukthet in the featherweight division.

The 2023 IBA Men’s Boxing Championship is from 30th April to 14th May, 2023.
Gold medalists will receive $200,000, silver medalists will take home the previous champion’s purse of $100,000, and bronze medalists will be rewarded with $50,000.
