The Ghana Film industry has faced its worst drought since its inception as an entertainment medium for Ghanaians, and the past 5yrs have been the worst for all those with the creative craft of acting and producing movies that can captivate the minds and hearts of Ghanaians.
Today, (2023) moviegoers can be assured of the rebranding of the industry due to the huge interest of some major stakeholders from the Diaspora community who in are converted effort seem ready to revamp this industry. One such consortium is the Diasporan Development Network based in Europe. The DDN with some of its international partners has taken a close look at the Ghana movie industry and has concluded to set up a team that would raise over 5 million dollars for the industry. The chairman of the Diasporan Development Network, Mr. Dodoo, stated in a recent interview that, movie producers with storylines can aid with the transformation of the Ghanaian narrative where patriotism, accountability, and responsible living.
Mr. Dodoo emphasized the need for government to partner with the industry by including a budget allocation for the industry in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Information since the creative arts are an essential tool needed for the development of our nation and its rise to integrity for all Ghanaians.
In sharing some details, the DDN will be starting a campaign on various Television networks to spike up interest in local content and calls on all producers on the various Television platforms to play their part when it comes to promoting local content that stands to enhance awareness, entertain Ghanaians, as well educate and promotes the Ghana brand to the world of entertainment. The group noted that in Hollywood for example, most musicians after making hits songs that catapult them into fame, all aspire in the end to become Movie stars … meaning the movie industry offers that stability to their craft as creative/entertaining individuals and Ghana is no exception, hence in our case we don’t have to reinvent that wheel but oil it well so it can take us all into the future of bliss.
In April 2023, the DDN team would be holding a seminar in Accra with stakeholders of the industry and investors who are ready and willing to help revamp this industry. The date and venue would be announced on this space so l ask all to keep an eye on this space for details.
