Some University of Ghana (UG) students demonstrated at Obra Spot on Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra to protest a few more decisions made by the school’s administration.
The “Ye abre mo Demo,” led by the University of Ghana’s Concerned Students Association, is also protesting the university’s choice to admit only level 100 students into Commonwealth and Sarbah Halls and resettle persisting students to other accomodation.
The new guidance to reassign ongoing students to other halls follows multiple confrontations between students from the corresponding halls in the past.
Students are also upset about the high tuition costs on college campuses.
They also accuse the university administration of raising tuition fees above the 15% limit set by Parliament.
They believed that, despite the university’s growing enrollment, the administration had not provided enough student housing.
According to the group, as a result, the majority of students have chosen to stay in very expensive hostels outside of school.
As a result, they are pleading with the government to intervene and prevent the university administration from enacting the regrettable decision.
