Twitter is planning to increase Blue subscription price to $11, starting from 9th Feb 2023. The old price of the subscription was $7.99, screenshots shared by Twitter users show.
Twitter Blue membership is without a doubt one of the most important features added to the platform. In terms of the company’s membership plan, subscribers see fewer advertisements and receive priority in answers and mentions.
Twitter Blue subscription price increased to $11 from $7.99
A screenshot of a notification from Twitter is being shared on social media. It mentions that unless you cancel your subscription, it will automatically renew for $11 from 9 February.
The price of Twitter Blue seems to be different for desktop and iOS versions.
“Twitter Blue was launched in June 2021 to provide paid users with access to exclusive features. The subscription service was recently relaunched with a few changes, including a price increase. It costs $8 per month when you join via desktop and $11 per month through iOS,” a user shared.
“The price for Twitter Blue is different on the web ($8) vs an Apple subscription ($11). I believe they are pricing it different to get the same revenue despite Apple’s margin. So it really isn’t a 38% increase…it is grossing it up for the channel fees,” one person tweeted.
Another user tweeted: “Twitter Blue has been a fun experiment but they’re putting the price up to £11 per month which is £2 less than I pay for the ENTIRE BBC. So it’s back to making sure I edit my tweets correctly the first time, frankly.”
Meanwhile, some users had already predicted there would be a price increase due to the ‘limited time offer’ notification.
“I have the option to get the new twitter blue but the subscription says “limited time offer”. Guessing that means price increase coming soon after the $8 is locked in,” someone tweeted.
Relaunch of Twitter increased demand for service
While the initial launch of Twitter Blue paid subscription was not quite successful, it has now improved its features.
The service’s launch resulted in a rush of imposter accounts, causing confusion and disorder across the platform.
But the Twitter Blue official page tweeted about its relaunch and the introduction of new and improved features. “Starting today when you subscribe your account will get access to subscriber-only features including Edit Tweet, 1080p video uploads, reader mode, and a blue checkmark (once your account has been reviewed),” it tweeted.
