Leslie Grace has shared a new look-back end-of-year video on Instagram, which includes more than a few behind-the-scenes photos and clips showing us more of the ill-fated Batgirl film that was abruptly shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery’s schedule. You can check out the video below.
The video features Grace in costume in what appears to be her trailer, sometimes goofing around and eating (Oreos and perhaps mozzarella sticks?), but most revealing is a first look at Batgirl’s final, upgraded tactical Batsuit. Before this video, fans had only gotten a look at the leather-based outfit worn in the only previously available photo. Eagle-eyed fans can also spy Brendan Fraser in the Firefly costume, and a glimpse at some Batcycle stunt work. The $90 million movie was to debut in 2023 on HBO Max, and was unceremoniously cut by the studio was a decision based on “leadership’s strategic shift.”
In December, former Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah talked about their optimism that in some way fans will be still able to see the first live-action Batgirl movie with Grace in the titular role. They’ve confirmed that meetings with James Gunn, newly-made co-head of DC Films, have occurred, but with the movie’s fate still up in the air.
“We got so much support from the whole industry from directors to screenwriters to studio people that really supported us through this really difficult time,” Fallah told Deadline last month. “We felt that we were not alone, and that’s positive.”
